Sopwell House hotel and Spa

As you can probably tell I love a spa…..

My home town of St Albans has some great spas…and Sopwell House is no exception. The former manor house, who regularly host weddings and sometimes some famous footballers, is just on the outskirts of the well-known city.

As soon as you walk into the spa you feel relaxed – we were handed robes and slippers and asked to wait in the waiting area. Helping ourselves to fruit and herbal teas we chatted amongst ourselves until we were invited in for our treatments.

I opted for a full body massage.  Heaven for an hour as the masseur used sweet scented oils and eased the knots in my back and tensions in my arms and legs. I felt so relaxed I swear I fell asleep at one point.

Afterwards, I joined my friend in the relaxation room for more tea and a quick debrief about our treatments. Then we had an hour to while away until dinner – we swam, sat in the steam room and had a gossip in the jacuzzi.

Lunch was served in their restaurant afterwards where you could help yourself to roast beef or pork – along with all the trimmings of a typical Sunday roast. One of the best I’ve had in ages!

After our relaxing afternoon, we had a little tour of the hotel. The lounge area where you can have afternoon tea is eccentrically English, with velvet chairs and large portrait pictures  – the bar also serves a speciality cocktail – the Battenburg.

The rooms cater for either the business traveller or bigger spacious room for couples on a getaway. The new Mews Suite gardens – a collection of cottages, some with hot tubs in the back garden, would be perfect for a family getaway.

The spa is due for an upgrade next year, where they’ll refurb the pool and relaxation area – I can’t wait to come back and experience it.

Check out Sopwell House’s website for more info and prices on the spa.
